Dawn by the Ocean

A few years ago when my family took a trip to the Virginia coast we stayed in a hotel by the beach for a few days. Personally I thought the trip was alright, nothing amazing about the beach or the hotel but the last day I was there I looked out the hotel patio to see the sun rising over the ocean. It is hard for me to explain my exact feelings in this moment, but I was filled with emotion, the suns brilliant light shining over the ocean and the beach looked beautiful to me, and I just stared out over the ocean for awhile taking in this sight. I could smell the ocean salt, but the air felt pure and undaunted and opened my usually allergy clouded nostrils. It wasn't as if I hadn't seen a dawn over the ocean but this one in particular was much more spectacular than the others. The trip that week was also close to when school started so I also had to look back to the memories of the previous year and to look forward to the upcoming year. The view also reminded me of the vastness of that ocean and the fact that I may never experience that same beautiful dawn ever again, but each time the sun rises over the horizon I think about that morning dawn by the ocean.

A small injustice

Recently I've turned eighteen and now I wish to register to vote so I can help decide who becomes president in 2012. For the last year my political party choice was clear, Republican, known as the GOP. I've always been more Republican minded, I believe the most effective economy and society comes from one with the least government interference. Lately though I've had some serious doubts over joining the GOP as they have lacked many things following their majority takeover in the house. It seems they lack the deceisevness and the ability to come to terms with Democrats to make any types of changes, but this isn't that huge of a problem, as this issue as been plagueing congress for decades, but the real issue to me is the Republican's delaying of the making of a bill that would stop congress members from useing insider tradeing. This quite frankly disgusts me, it seems this people who are taking advantage of their appointed positions by having an unfair advantage over everyone else. This bill has been proposed for over six years so this show more than ever that with one hand congress scratches the back of their constituents and with the other their own back. We can only hope that someday a congress will exisit that has the sole intrest of the people at heart, but for now, we can only try to make our voices heard about this small but terrifying injustices.

My Fondest Memory

Altough it is difficult to say what is truely my fondest memory, one memory that stands out the most was my vaction to Universal Studios Orlando last year. From the start of my trip it was amazeing. My vaction truely began with my faimily's arrival to the hardrock hotel. The hotel was great with display cases filled with rock and roll treasure's like Jimmy Hendrix guitars, Lil Wayne sunglaess and any other famous artist you can think of. The park itself is huge and full of great experiences, my personal favorites where the Rip Ride Rocket rollercoaster which lets you choose a song to listen to while riding the roller coaster and the other was Harry Potter Hogwarts castle tour roller coaster. If your familiar with the Harry Potter series the ride is great with many surpries, but I can't tell you about it on the internet because I'm pretty sure it will violate copyright infringement and this article would then be deleted, but the roller coasters and the Harry Potter rides weren't the only reasons why I loved going to Universal Studios, the moments I had with my faimily where great too. Many things happened, like my faimily members being picked unusually often for events. For example when we went into Ollivander's wand shop my sister was picked out of the crowd for wand testing, which result in a real life event just like in the first movie when Harry tests out the wands. All of this was great fun and admist all of this fun my faimily was the happiest we had been in awhile and so that is why my week in Universal Studios is my fondest memory.

Reading in General

Since 3rd grade I've consistently read books, whether at home or at school, I have always enjoyed books. In fact, I believe my interest in reading has greatly helped to develop my English skills, as my SAT Reading score reflects that. Over time though my interest in book type has changed. At first all I would read was books about fantasy and fairytale lands, then when I got a little order all I read was books about real life and more adult adventures. Nowadays I can't stand reading a fantasy book and prefer a mystery or adventure book like lord of the rings, in fact lately I've even read books like Atlas Shrugged and Doctor Zhivago, long books that can be somewhat boring but I feel as if I gain intellectual concepts from these books. Even more recently don't feel like reading books as much lately, as I have little free time with work, sports and school. In the future I hope I can find the time to relax and just read like I used to.

Sun-made = Well Made

If anyone knows me from a lunch they'll know that for the past six years I've always packed a box of sun made California raisins in my lunch. Although it appears most people dislike raisins, I believe they're delicious balls of natural sugar and vitamin C that contain numerous health benefits that have helped me over the years. One of the most beneficial health effects of eating raisins is their ability to help to detoxify the blood stream, which means your heart and organs don't need to work as hard to filter the blood, meaning, theoretically you'll live longer. Raisins also come in extremly conviennt boxes, so you can even put them in you pocket and wipe them out whenever you wish to eat them, although this is not particuarly recomeneded. So, the next time someone offers you raisins don't waste them or throw them away, because like wine, raisins are an acquired taste that are extremely healthy and who knows, can potentially help you to live longer.

Hey read this blog if you want to find out how to slow down time?!?

Some people say to live life to the fullest, by doing as much as possible in the small amount of time we have in a life. People in today's world are involved in a great many activities that usually take up most of their time. Usually these activities are work, sports, or other events, but they both leave people with little free time to truly enjoy their lives. In fact, the way many people live their lives can be described by Benjamin Franklin's quote 'Time is Money'. My belief is that to truly enjoy life and make the best use of our time, we must sometimes take a break from our work, whether that is sports or a job. Doing this will allow you to enjoy what you do a daily basis much more. I'm not saying take a week off or take a vacation, but have a day where you do something that doesn't involve work or strenuous activity and relax. You will also notice your day go by slower while you are relaxed opposed to while working, where we often get flustered about not enough time to finish things. During the week you will also have something to look forward to if you set aside a day to relax. So take a day to read a book, go to the mall or blog on your computer, it will help make good use of your time and make your week much better.

Money, both Enlightener and Corruptor

Money can do and be many things to people. It can inspire, motivate, constrain, and even corrupt any given individual. Some, like the writer/philosopher Ayn Rand have even symbolized the pursuit of money and economic sucess as a noble cause, but in reality every individual's economic positions are based on a large number of varying factors, meaning some people are at a disadvantage to begin with while others have a distince advantage. These starting factors in someone's life can greatly effect the outcome of their future income, unless the indivdual themself is able to outperform their parents ecnomically.
Although I have put in theory the basic absumption that your future income is greatly affected by your parents, in realty this is subject to change. For example, someone who has wealthy parents may not feel the need to aquire a job that pays well, and may choose a career that they are acutally interested in doing even though they will never make as much as their parents, but someone who is from a faimily with little wealth might pick a high-paying job out of necessity if they have to pay off huge student loans. I can ramble on and on about this bu the bottom line is that your parents wealth is a large influence toward your fututre wealth.

SNL, 5 year decline

For the last 7 years I've personally been a huge fan of the show Saturday Night Live. I loved the days of Jimmy Fallon and Tracey Morgan, where they acutally put thought and talent into their sketches, which made the show funny and creative, but after these two actors left the show years ago I believe the shows has declined into a somewhat repetitive mix of returning hosts like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin attempting to breath some life into the show, and now it feels as if every sketch follows the same stupid funny plot, with little creativity mixed. For the future of SNL I only hope they will have a better cast of charcters and sketches.

Education k-12, the modern day assembly line

Over the past 31 years the United State's education process has been in steady decline. Not only have average SAT scores, ACT scores and students' average GPAs have been falling, but also college attendance rates as well. These declines are largely due to the creation of the ED (U.S. Department of Education). The ED have created a learning environment for k-12 student similar to an assembly line, where students' schedules are split between 5-9 periods a day, each school has varying schedules but all are similar. In this assembly line atmosphere, students either excel or are simply left behind in the process. This atmosphere also dissuades individuality and rather promotes sameness between students, this is a huge mistake, because students individuality and creativity has pushed America to great heights in the past and straining it now will only further slow ourselves down.

4 Poems

Emerging Light
Do you see it?
the dying light of our generation
the dimming beacon of what was once brilliant
but under the dying light
a new color arises
whose colors are more splendid than the last
So now do you see it?
the new light that will surpass our own
and lead us through the eons

Two Problems
No! Say the Republicans
Never! Say the Democrats
Obama pleads, c'mon guys
But ignorance cries, "shut up"
The people shout, "hurry"
The country is sick
No, Justice is weak! Says Ignorance
"Ignorance is evil", states Justice
But both are wrong

Calm
She sat silently
humming softly
her red dress a contrast to her pale skin
Looking small in the large chair
staring at the front desk
waiting for the nurse to tell her about her mother
she looked as if seeing through another world
ignorant of the severity of her situation
yet she sat calmly waiting
for her mother

Soft Thunder
Into the sky the lighting strikes
its vibrant light beckons you to stare
its roaring thunder turns you away
but do not fear thunder and lighting
for its harsh sounds make good company in the night
and its brilliant light a reminder of nature's splender
